Magor The Marquis

“Eric” won the 1976 Silverwood at 13 mos of age.   It was a special one for us as it was held in Barrie, Ontario, Canada (the first of three Silverwoods held in Canada). The same weekend he was awarded Best of Breed at the Specialty from the Open Dog class under Raymond Oppenheimer, defeating two previous Silverwood winners.

Eric sired many champions, including 1980 Silverwood winner, Ch Magor Mint Julep of Trebor ROM as well as a very important stud dog for us in Can/Am Ch Van Don’s Silver Chancelor ROM. Eric was very special to us as he was one of those “once in a lifetime” dogs

“Roger”, a Marquis son, proved an important link for us . Due to a huge stroke of luck we were able to purchase him. He sired the 1984 Silverwood winner, Am Ch Banbury Barnstomer ROM as well as our own Can/Am Ch Magor Midas Touch ROM.

He was Reserve White Dog at the 1980 Silverwood. Roger was also the first winner of the Raymond Oppenheimer Stud Dog Trophy in 1984.

He possessed a key ingredient in a stud dog — the consistent ability to produce better than himself.

“Noah”, Silver Chancelor’s son, proved he had the Midas Touch when he produced one of the top stud dogs in North America in Can/Am Ch Jocko’s Caesar of Magor ROM.

Noah was Reserve White Dog at both the 1980 & 1981 Silverwoods.

His dam was a beautiful Maestro daughter we were incredibly lucky to obtain from Bill Morgan (Maerdy) in Wales.

When the majority of his showing was behind him, Noah went to live with friend Tom O’Connor in Calgary, Alberta.

“Julius” was the most notable Midas Touch offspring and still appears in multiple winning lines across the breed.  His legacy could fill a dozen web pages.  He was the most incredible sire with 10 very notable ROM winners.

Julius won the 1987 Bronze Trophy and was Reserve White Dog at the 1986 Silverwood as well as a White Dog Finalist in 1987, where his son and daughter, Augustus and Simply Mah’vlus captured Best Colored Dog and Best Colored Bitch.

Julius is the only stud dog in North American history to have sired 2 Brood Bitch Trophy winners; Am Ch Wyke’s Magor Miss Marple ROM and Am Ch Iceni Sweet Mischief (won the award twice) as well as Stud Dog Trophy Winner; Can/Am Ch Bullyrook’s Batteries Included ROM. Julius’ grandson Am Ch Windfall’s Starman of Bedrock ROM (by Augustus) won the stud dog trophy a record 3 times (1995, 1996 & 1998).  Visit our “tribute to Julius” page.

“Auggie”, a highly successful son of Caesar, and his sister, Can/Am Ch Magor Simply Mah’vlous ROM, were our introduction to coloreds as up until the mid 80’s we had bred almost exclusively whites.

Auggie swept on to the show scene to capture Best Colored Dog and Best Colored at the 1987 Silverwood at 10 mos old. He was a multiple Specialty winner and capped off his short show career by winning the 1987 Bronze Trophy.

He sired a substantial number of winning dogs with the most significant being his son Am Ch Windfalls Starman of Bedrock ROM, a 3 time winner of the Raymond Oppenheimer Stud Dog Trophy. He also sired an important bitch for us in Magor Mahogany Miss, still prominent in our current pedigrees. All of the boys featured on this page are present in our current pedigrees.

"Recollect that the Almighty, who gave the dog to be companion of our pleasures and our toils, hath invested him with a nature noble and incapable of deceit." --Sir Walter Scott

Stud Dogs have always played a huge role in our Magor line.  Our first Silverwood Winner in 1976, Can/Am Ch Magor the Marquis ROM, was the product of two imports linebred to the great Ormandy Souperlative Bar Sinister.  Marquis was a key dog for us as even today there are no Magor lines not leading directly back to him.  He marked the beginning of an incredible tale male line for us.
